COMPLETE LOWER FOIL KIT Wake Foil Board NOT Included
This is my second foil and I’m ashamed to say that after multiple attempts I could never actually get up out of the water on my first one. No matter how I adjusted it, I could never get the feel for it. I ended up just getting frustrated and gave up on it for a while figuring that maybe foiling just wasn’t for me. This Liquid Force Launch 120 came along and I thought I’d give it another go and I’m SO glad I did. This one is a night and day difference and is SO much easier than my first foil. After only 4 or 5 tries I was actually getting up out of the water and doing some short rides. I still have a long way to go but my confidence is high enough to the point I actually want to keep riding. Here’s what I like and don’t like about this awesome foil:This foil is $699 (at the time of this review) and though that’s pricey, the quality is very impressive and I can’t argue with the results. You only get the foil in this listing so you need to either mount it to a board you have or purchase one. I did end up purchasing the accompanying Liquid Force board and I’m really glad I did. The foil mounts quickly to the board with the included tools and hardware and it’s rock solid.Liquid Force is a brand I’m familiar with and they’ve definitely kept up their quality with this foil. The foil needs to be assembled using the included hardware and wrenches that store in a little plastic tackle box. Both the larger main wing and smaller rear wing have accompanying padded covers that keep them from getting damaged. The covers fit over the wings when the foil is assembled, but when it’s disassembled, both the smaller foil and the hardware box fit inside the cover of the larger foil which secures shut using Velcro. I absolutely love the design. It made it really easy to take the foil and board onto our boat with other wakeboarding gear. I had the foil disassembled (the mast, the center post of the wing, and the large wing cover that held both wings and hardware) and stored it all under the seat while the board itself rode on the rack with the other wakeboards. When we got to our spot I had the foil assembled and installed on the board in less than 5 minutes and I was ready to rock and roll. It really is a slick design. As for actually riding the board, I couldn’t be happier with the performance. I have lots of wakeboarding experience but I’m still a complete novice when it comes to foils thanks to my failed attempts with my previous foil. After watching a bunch of online videos I jumped in the water behind the boat with the Launch 120. The board floats great with the foil underneath it in the water, but when it’s sideways in the water I found the front wing of the foil wanted to float more than the rear so it wanted to roll. I found it easier to start with the board right side up and my heels resting on the board. As soon as the boat started to pull I could use the force on the board to press against it and pop up, just like starting on a regular wakeboard (we found the sweet spot speed on our boat to be around 8-10 mph). The difference is as soon as you get upright, the wing instantly starts creating lift and wants to pop out of the water so I had to keep a lot of weight on the front foot to prevent that. It’s definitely a new and unfamiliar feeling for me, but after a couple attempts I got the feel for it and was popping right up.This is definitely a high quality foil and I’m very happy with it. I would absolutely recommend it whether you’re a beginner or a novice like me.
