I really like these bottoms. They are generous in cut but short enough to still look like part of a bathing suit as opposed to shorts. I am 5'7" and got the 2x. I usually wear xl or xxl lately. Bathing suits are usually too tight and uncomfortable but these were good. For me, I would NOT go in rough ocean waves with them because the fabric and fit weren't tight enough of a fit to not fall off in the waves. I got the white so I can mix and match with other tops. The white did not seem to be see-through. I'm back to order another pair because I ruined my white bottoms when I packed them damp in a bag with a new dark-colored top that bled onto them. (Don't do that! Pack them separately if anything is damp!) Am also getting a pair in red.Edit: I've come back to edit my post to say that of the three pairs I bought, all are consistent in sizing. I wanted to mention this especially since some reviews said the size was too tight or inconsistent.
